C-icak

First of all, you may have noticed that I've changed my blog design. I made the background myself, about 2 or 3 months ago, and I thought it'd be cool if I put it here because it's full of things that reflect my life.

Cicak - or Hemidactylus frenatus - is the common house gecko:

Its name is derived from the sound it makes.

And it is also my archenemy. I have this sort of phobia of cicaks. But as far as I know, we don't have the name for people with cicak phobia. I used to be not-so-scared of these creatures, until one unfortunate incident happened.

I was carrying my laptop with some cables on top of the laptop. I was about to enter my room when I saw a cicak on the wall above my bedroom door. I wasn't that scared of them back then so I just went "Oh they'll probably just stay there with those sticky feet of theirs." but I was wrong.

As I approached the door, it sort of panicked and I think it forgot to activate its sticking system or something so it fell down and I jumped and squealed and the cables on top of my laptop (which I was carrying) sort of jumped with me and the cables landed on my hand and I thought it was the cicak that fell on my hand so I screamed in terror.

Turns out the cicak was on the floor.

But ever since then, I've been afraid of them. I don't know why. Back when I was in 4th or 5th grade a cicak fell to our dining table (from the ceiling) when my family and I were having dinner but that didn't traumatize me.

And no, I've never tried to face my fear of the cicak. People are always like "face your fears" and stuff but I think everyone has fears and it'd be weird if someone didn't have any fears. It's completely normal to have fears. So I say as long as it doesn't disturb your everyday life, let it be. And if it does, go get therapy.

P.S. today is world leprosy day. Leprosy is this sort of skin disease. To find out more click here. And to donate click here. Please donate. Pretty please with sprinkles on top :) Trust me, it feels good to help those in need.

B-ill Kaulitz

Who's Bill Kaulitz? He's the guy who's currently on my background. Yeah that's a guy. I wanted to make sure you know he's a guy because a lot of people have mistaken him as a girl. But I actually don't have any problem with that.

Bill Kaulitz was born in Leipzig, Germany, on 1 September 1989, 10 minutes after his twin brother Tom:

Problem is, I don't know which is which.

Bill is the singer from the German pop-rock band, Tokio Hotel. Which is my most favorite band in the entire universe ever. He has showed in interest in singing ever since he was very young, and formed the band with his brother Tom. This post isn't about the band so I'll just skip this stuff.

Bill has this androgynous style. You don't know whether he's a guy or a girl. And when he was still in school. He made his own clothes. He pierced his eyebrow and his tongue and dyed his hair black (it was originally blond). Everyone kept mocking him because he was different. But he didn't care.

Even after he got famous, people kept mocking him. He was even once voted the 'ugliest woman in Germany'. But like I said, he doesn't care what haters think. One of his quotes:

"The most important thing is to be yourself."

And that is why he is my biggest idol and role model. All my life I have felt that I'm different. I wanted to fit in and be exactly like everyone else, but I just couldn't. And it was constantly bothering me. But ever since I found out about Bill, I learned to embrace my difference. Now I feel completely comfortable with who I am - flaws and all.

Bill is a vegetarian (and so is his twin brother Tom) and because of that, I am now also a vegetarian. They love animals and adopted stray dogs. One of their dogs:

(Yes he smokes. And I hate the fact that he does. But it's the only thing I hate about him.)

Aside from that, he and Tom also participated in PETA's campaign (picture included in my previous post), and he and the band participated in the DAA (Designers Against AIDS) campaign:

(If you would like to help fight AIDS, visit the DAA website here.)

So yeah. That's it. I guess. Oh yeah I want to thank Bill Kaulitz for being who he is. If he didn't I wouldn't have gotten rid of my insecurities. Danke, Bill.

A-nimal rights

According to Wikipedia, animal rights, also referred to as animal liberation, is the idea that the most basic interests of non-human animals should be afforded the same consideration as the similar interests of human beings. (to read more, click here).

I myself am an animal lover. And in my opinion, animals should be treated with respect just as humans. We have no right to kill them. In fact, we have no right to bother them. We think that they're getting in the way of what we're trying to do, but the thing is, we are actually the ones getting in the way of what they're trying to do.

Animals behave in a natural way and have been doing so ever since.. well as far as I know ever since the beginning of time. Humans like us - except if you're an animal whose brain has been altered by some random scientist and is capable of reading blogs - on the other hand, have changed our behavior from time to time. We.. how do I say it? Modernize? Yeah, something like that.

I think it's a good thing that we've modernized, but every good thing has a bad side, and the bad side is that since now most people live away from nature and therefore away from most animals, they tend to forget about them. Well according to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution - I don't care if you believe in it or not - animals were here first. So I say we should respect them. Stop bothering the lives of animals. Let them live their in their own natural way. Start to care about them a little more.

Last but not least, since I'm a Tokio Hotel fan, I had to put this:

For more information on how you can help defend animal rights, visit the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) website here. Please do. I would really appreciate it if you did.
